So Long and Good Luck

Our class has ended, projects and grades are in, and it’s time to move on to other things in the new semester.

I’d like to say how much I enjoyed you all as students and as a class. I hope to see you again in the future.

Good luck to everyone!

Posted below are some of the class projects from assignment 4. If you’ve begun a blog or a website, I hope you consider keeping the project going.

Question 5

This will be our last blog question of the semester.

In the final project you have been asked to create multi-media projects that convey your argument (proposal or rebuttal).

What challenges have you encountered in working on this project? What have you done to address/overcome those challenges?

How is competing a project like this different that writing a traditional essay? How is it similar?

Reading for Tuesday 12/9

Posted on here (in a side box) are some readings about Transliteracy. Please read the Wikipedia article AND the article titled “Crossing Divides” for Tuesday’s class. There are other links there for you to read should you want more information or you find this concept of interest and want further discussions.

We will discuss transliteracy and the assigned reading in class. The concept of transliteracy is important to consider as you enter a world that is changing its definitions and requirements of “literacy.”

Amendment to Project 4

As I stated in class, I have added one small component to the final project. You’ll find the reflection essay instructions on the same blog page as the description for Project 4. Please be sure to complete this portion of the project as well, since it will be included in the grade for the entire project.

Multi-media Design Examples (Bad & Otherwise)

Here are some examples of how NOT to compose your multi-media projects. And maybe a few good ones, too.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Rrc4I3-n-9Q (this is painfully awful!)

A great example of what TO do. Not only does this have good advice, but it is a good example unto itself.

Website Building

Here’s a link to the instructions for accessing your own webspace on Purdue’s servers.

Personal Website at Purdue (iTap instructions)

You can use Dreamweaver or another application that’s available on Purdue’s computers to build your pages. If you want to use another ap, that’s fine, too.

If you’d like to use a site to host your webpages elsewhere you can try:

Tripod http://www.tripod.lycos.com/

Geocities http://geocities.yahoo.com/

Wix http://www.wix.com/

Weebly http://www.weebly.com/

Or any other number of sites that offer free hosting.

You SHOULD think about the ethos you create for yourself when you use a site that not only is connected to a particular web address (Purdue versus Yahoo, for example) but also think about what it might “look like” to your audience if you have a site filled with ads and you’re trying to make a statement about ads.

Conferences

As I stated in class, we’ll meet in conferences Thursday and Monday.

Please have a page typed up that outlines or summarizes your ideas for Project 4 and also identifies what media you think you’ll be using for your composition.

Thursday

8:30-8:55 LJ, Jordan, Bradley, Jadin, Sergo

8:55-9:20 Annie, Carolyn, Chin Yi, Jessi

Monday

8:30-8:55 RLJ, Tyler, Daniel, Ethan

8:55-9:20 Ashley, Stephanie, Ryan B, David
